Easiest Way to Install a Grub Boot Screen
In Kubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04, the default grub screen is a bit dull as compare to Linux Mint if you have used Mint before. It can be changed like what Mint did to their own distro package but it requires some manual editing of the menu.lst. If you don’t know what menu.lst is here’s a simple definition taken from google.
menu.lst file
A file that lists all the operating systems that are installed on a system. The contents of this file dictate the list of operating systems that is displayed on the GRUB menu. From the GRUB menu, you can easily boot an operating system without modifying the BIOS or fdisk partition settings.Warning!
Editing your menu.lst can cause your PC not to boot. You’ve been warned. Hence, the purpose of this post.
I took the risk of editing the menu.lst file manually. This is the first time that I’ve done it but I always encounter an error message that spashimage can’t be loaded. I followed every information in this site but same thing happens, an error loading the splash image is displayed. I spent almost 3 hours just trying to figure this out and then I remember the adept installer. Again I said, This should be easy.
Install QGrubEditor
QGRUBEditor is a system tool to view and edit the GRUB boot loader. It offers many features and it is the perfect solution for those who want to change the way GRUB works, without messing with GRUB’s configuration files.
In Kubuntu Hardy Heron, Go to Add/Remove Programs > Type ‘grub‘ in search (without the quotes) > put a check under Qgrub Editor > Apply and quit.

Changing the Grub Boot Screen
- A Collection of quality Grub boot screen is available here, just download and save it in your PC.
