Installing Medibuntu in Kubuntu Hardy
Medibuntu (Multimedia, Entertainment & Distractions In Ubuntu) is a repository of packages that cannot be included into the Ubuntu distribution for legal reasons (copyright, license, patent, etc). I have used medibuntu in my Kubuntu primarily for video editing. Yes for editing, remember the first video I created using Kino DV? At first, the .ogg file generated by Krecordmydesktop isn’t being recognized by Kino and the only resolution is to add medibuntu. There were several options on how to download it via terminal but for some reason I opted not to use it, I just want it to be as point and click as possible.
Installing Medibuntu in Kubuntu Hardy Heron is easy. We don’t neet the terminal to download all the necessary packages.
How to install Medibuntu in Kubuntu Hardy Heron?
- Click on the K menu > System > Adept Manager. (type your password)
- Click on Adept > Manage Repositories.
- In the Software Sources window, click on the Third-Party Software tab and click on the add button.
- In the Add APT Repository window, copy and paste this:
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ hardy free non-free
- Then click on close and you will see the package database being updated.
- After updating the database, click on fetch updates to search for a newer update. If new updates are available, just click on the Full upgrade button then click on Apply Changes to install them.
- That’s it you’re done!
