Old PC for Linux Mint

Linux Mint January 2nd, 2008

Just got my disc from Canonical having Ubuntu version 7.1 code name “Gutsy Gibbon”. You can download a copy from Ubuntu’s website or request a free disc, just create a free account and you will also get these 4 beautiful Ubuntu stickers. Now you might be wondering, why did I install Linux Mint instead of the original Ubuntu version. To tell you the truth I really don’t know anything yet about Linux or Ubuntu or whatever distro thing they call it. This site was accidentally created thinking that Ubuntu is a new OS without googling and doing a small research, (silly me!) competing with Windows XP, Apple and Linux.

Basically what I am up to is an entirely beginners guide in understanding and learning Linux/Ubuntu and some other distros. I actually did install Ubuntu at first but I ended using Linux Mint after a few research. I’ll explain it on my next post. For the mean time, here is the computer specification that I will be using for Linux Mint.

ubuntu Old PC for Linux Mint

  • Processor: AMD Sempron 2600+
  • Motherboard: ECS nForce 3-A
  • Memory: 256 MB Generic DDR 400
  • Video Card: 256 MB GeForce FX 5500
  • Harddisk: 40 GB IDE Western Digital 7200 rpm
  • Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 940MG (this is new icon biggrin Old PC for Linux Mint )

Pretty old eh? Could be but I believe this would be enough as Linux doesn’t require too much of memory according to Jun after reading his post regarding RAM’s. Thanks bro and I hope that you will continue and educate us newcomers learning Linux.
