Comments on: Play DVD and MP3 in Ubuntu

Hi,
I am new to ubuntu and have followed your steps for the mp3 playback but then I encounter errors as below:

“E:Some index files failed to download,they have been ignored,or old ones used instead”.

Each time i try to update,i face this problem.As my system is an old pentium 4 with Intel D845GBV board,the only version of ubuntu compatible is 6.10 but there are a lot of software that i can’t install like Java.The only one that i have succeeded in installing is Flash.

Really appreciate if you can guide me from a step by step or I may have to really abandon it us there is no support.

I like what you are trying to do for linux (ubuntu) newbies. Just a footnote to this article:

In order to be able to play dvd’s, you will need to install one more package, which seems to handle the regional stuff that dvd’s are made with. The package is called regionset. Install it with:

sudo apt-get install regionset

Now you can really watch all your favorite dvd’s!
