Turbocharging Firefox
I love now my Firefox browser compare to my Firefox that was installed in my Windows XP partition. Why? Well aside from getting the desired font, fixing some buttons on the default Firefox installation with Linux and using FireFTP without a hitch, I was also able to make it browse and surf much faster on my 512 kbps DSL connection.
Although the Firefox browser has already been optimized there is still an additional tool to make loading of webpages TURBOCHARGED!
Fasterfox

Fasterfox is a Firefox add-on that tweak’s the browser’s network and performance. You might be aware of this config that also allows you to modify some Firefox settings but with Fasterfox, Turbocharging is enabled by default after the installation. It saves you time and the hassle of tweaking things up. Here’s what you get with this add-on.
- Prefetch Links – Dynamic speed increases can be obtained with Fasterfox’s unique prefetching mechanism, which recycles idle bandwidth by silently loading and caching all of the links on the page you are browsing.
- Tweak Network- Fasterfox allows you to tweak many network and rendering settings such as simultaneous connections, pipelining, cache, DNS cache, and initial paint delay.
- Page Load Timer – A millisecond accurate page load timer tests the effectiveness of your settings.
- Block Popups – A popup blocker for popups initiated by Flash plug-ins is also included.
I tried loading nba.com without Fasterfox enabled and the total time spent after it reaches DONE is about a whooping 94 seconds. We all know how heavy that page is, but after enabling Fasterfox (of course I cleared my cache and restarted) it only took 48 seconds to display the entire page. That was simply an amazing display of speed and power. Highly recommended! Go ahead and try it for yourself.
